Runner and Napkins

While shopping at Terrain a few weeks ago I saw these cute napkins that I thought I could recreate. I had a few friends with April birthdays so I whipped them up for their gift. Here are the steps I took...

The supplies: Fabric, a runner to trace, pins, scissors, fabric paint, painting sponge, stencils and sewing machine (not pictured). Also have a quote or something you would like to stencil on the runner/napkins.

I used an Ikea runner I had to trace the size runner I wanted to make. I pinned it to my fabric and just cut around it...so easy!

After cutting my runner and napkins I folded over the edges and ironed them so it would be quicker and easier to sew.

Setting up my stencils. I used a small sponge to fill the stencils in with fabric paint.

After I was done with the painting I let them dry for a few hours and then folded them up and ironed the edges for a clean look.

The finished product/gift.

Ready to be gifted.

Black and Khaki

On Easter I just couldn't bring myself to wear a dress. It was a little chilly and I feel so white from not being in the sun yet. So I settled on cropped khakis and a sweater. I thought I would brighten things up with a scarf and jewelry. Maybe next year I will try out an Easter dress again...xoxo.

Easter Entertaining

On Sunday Ben and I hosted 8 people for Easter dinner. It was a beautiful afternoon so we had the large barn doors of our loft wide open to let in the fresh air and light while we mingled, ate and drank.

Our menu...ham, turkey, rosemary potatoes (thanks to Jackie), parmesan asparagus with shallots (thanks to Marie), rolls and for dessert a raspberry tart (thanks to Kate).

The decorated table.

Place cards in jelly beans, colored eggs and grass.

Some Easter decor around the house.

Appetizers and a beautiful flower arrangement from my neighbor.

Dinner and dessert.

All of us at dinner with the doors wide open.

Brooklyn Flea

Hoping you all had a great holiday weekend. I am still enjoying mine with Easter Monday off! And since I am able to shop again who knows what I will do today:)

It was my mom's birthday yesterday and since the Brooklyn Flea is where I got her gift this year I thought I would post about it. Ben and I went there about a month ago, such a great place/experience for us. Here is what we found...

In the former Williamsburg Savings Bank building...stunning! One of the last weekends in here before they move outside for the summer.

Colorful tapestries.

Great selection of yarn.

Loved how they made display shelves between these two ladders.

The two rings I ended up with.

The vintage clip-on earrings I got my mom for her birthday...they are looking beautiful on her these days:)

Favorite Four

Looking forward to this holiday weekend. Ben and I are hosting a large Easter dinner here on Sunday for friends in the area (a.k.a. our East Coast family:). I was lucky to get a free ham and friends are bringing side dishes and dessert...leaving me with the fun task of getting the table/decor ready...my favorite part.

This week's favorite four (clockwise from top left). 1-I absolutely 'LOVE' this new candle line at Target. The design and scents are fabulous! 2-Ben and I got an Easter package in the mail with these fun little chocolates. Yeah for packages. 3-We tried a local donut shop for the first time this week. It is a BIG deal here and now I see why. The flavors we tried were Smores', Grapefruit Brown Sugar, and Raspberry Balsamic...yum! 4-Yesterday was mani/pedi day at work...how lucky am I!?!

Have a great holiday whether it is Easter, Passover or...

Grass Pots

Every spring I love growing grass in pots to put around the house. It makes the house feel springy and it was something my mom would always do that I loved. I usually make them in pots that don't have holes in the bottom so they don't last more then a few weeks but they are so fun while they last.

Here are the steps I take to make my grass pots...happy planting! xoxo

Materials: Soil, grass seed, tin foil, pots.

The pots filled with soil. (I line my tin pots with tin foil because I find that they leak when I water the grass.)

After putting the seed in the soil I water them and put them in my window for maximum sun light.

Growing...it only took a week to get this out of control!

When they get crazy like this it is a fun look but I usually cut them down a bit.

The groomed pots.

Ideas for Easter decorating with my eggs...!?!

Brunch and Egg Decorating

On Saturday I had a few girls over for Easter egg decorating and since it was my girlfriend's birthday I decided to have a birthday brunch beforehand. The brunch consisted of raspberry french toast, bacon, oranges and mimosas for celebrating. With the table decor, I am not usually one for a plastic table cloth but since we were doing the egg decorating afterward (on the same table) I thought I would kill two birds with one stone. The hot pink table cloth created a nice pop of color for the brunch.

Here are a few pics from the morning...have a great Tuesday! xoxo

Brunch...the oranges looked much prettier unpeeled so I made the girls do a little work if they actually wanted to eat them...ha.

Orange juice, champagne, raspberries, whip cream...yum!

The egg decorating materials: boiled eggs, dye kits, sharpies, glitter, egg cartons to bring home the eggs, and a little Martha Stewart for inspiration.

Dying the eggs...we added vinegar to the store bought kit to make the colors more vibrant.

A few of the finished eggs.

Raspberry French Toast

Happy Monday! Hope it was a restful weekend for you. On Saturday I had a few ladies over for brunch and egg decorating (pics coming tomorrow on that). I tried a new french toast recipe I want to share with you...it was so delicious!

I had had this french toast at a friend's house 2 years ago and LOVED it but never got around to making it until now. Here is the recipe and a few pics to help you...xoxo!

Raspberry French Toast
(you can also find it in this book)

12 slices Texas Toast white bread
1 c. raspberries, fresh or thawed frozen
3 eggs
3/4 c. half and half
8 Tbsp. butter
1/3 c raspberry jam
powdered sugar
whipped cream

9x13 pan- sprayed with cooking spray

Oven 425deg
Bake for 20-25 mins

The night before:

Butter one side of the bread and place butter side down in the pan.
Spread the jam on the second piece of bread and place it jam side down on top of the bottom piece. Brush melted butter on the top.

In medium bowl, mix slightly beaten eggs and half and half together.

Pour evenly over all slices in the pan. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.

In morning, bake at 425 for 20-25 mins. Serve warm from the oven. Put on plates and top with powdered sugar, raspberries, whipped cream.

Garnish with mint. Serve maple syrup on side.

The ingredients (I forgot eggs in the picture...oops:)

The lady at the bakery told me Texas Toast just means thick slices of bread so I bought Italian bread and cut it myself.

Buttering the bread before placing it face down in the greased pan.

Spreading raspberry jam on the bread before placing it face down on the bottom piece of bread.

Brushing melted butter on top of the bread.

Mixing the eggs and half & half.

Pouring the egg/half & half mixture over the bread.

Ready to go in the refrigerator...don't forget to cover it in foil.

After being baked...ready to eat with raspberries and whip cream on top...YUM!
